Dance performance by Bollywood Dance Scene
Bezubaan: The Voiceless at MN Fringe Aug 5-14
Bollywood Dance Scene, creator of MN Fringe's top-selling shows in both 2014 and 2015, presents Bezubaan: The Voiceless, an original Bollywood dance dramedy exploring themes of immigration, integration, and identity. Father figure and long-time Hindu Indian immigrant “Appa” struggles with change at the international market he considers both his means of livelihood and his sanctuary. He, his Desi family, and their Minnesotan friends must face a new addition to their community whose presence could be life-changing. This family friendly show is packed with exciting Indian and contemporary dance styles, from Kathak to Swing and Lavni to Hip Hop, which punctuate and illustrate the storytelling. With an intergenerational and multicultural cast of 90, Bezubaan: The Voiceless epitomizes the BDS message of social harmony. Show times are: August 5, 5:30pm; August 6, 2:30pm; August 7, 5:30pm; August 10, 7pm; and Aug 13, 2:30pm at Rarig Center Thrust located at 330 21st Ave. South, Mpls, MN 55455. Big Bollywood Cook Off, July 21
Five male chefs (!who are also the lead actors of our upcoming show!) and their 5 sous chefs battle it out in this one of a kind cook off! You will get to sample ALL VEGETARIAN non-traditional snacks from the streets of India. We start with a Bollywood dance lesson to build up an appetite! Be there on time - only 75 tickets will be sold.

Presented by Geetmala. 5pm at Pearson Hall, Concordia University. Geetmala is a Music & Entertainment program which features local Twin Cities talent in vocal & instrumental music. This event features Nrityalaya Dance Academy, Layyasaaram, Anwer, Ghanchi & Shakil Trio and Bollywood Dance Scene who will provide a sneak peak at their upcoming Fringe show-in-the-works! The Pan Asian Arts Festival bridges cultures, creates positive dialogues, and embraces differences. Including over one hundred performances, many arts and crafts, food from Asian regions and performances from professional artists.

We will be celebrating the opening of the exhibit Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation with an encore performance of Spicy Masala Chai! We are so honored to have been invited to add our energy to this incredible event. This dynamic exhibit "explores the Indian American experience and the community's vital political, professional, and cultural contributions to American and Minnesotan life and history." Tickets are $20 adults, $16 MNHS members/With Fringe Button, $10 ages 5-17, and includes museum admission. You can find them here.
HOLI Bollywood Dance Party of Colors, April 16
Bollywood Dance Scene and OUT in the Backyard (OIBY) present the HOLI Party at Powderhorn Park. Mark the arrival of spring by celebrating HOLI at an outdoor Bollywood dance party of colors! For a suggested donation of $10 (cash/check only), you can dance and play at this family friendly festival which will provide organic colors, fun Indian snacks, and a live DJ. Proceeds from this event benefit the work of OIBY and BDS. Shower each other in color and say, “Holi hai!” Rain or shine - be the rainbow!

5:00-8:00 pm at Midtown Global Market! A dance challenge has never been such Bolly-good-fun. Join the audience and see creative dancers as they impress the judges with original choreography set to Bollywood music. Cheer on your favorite teams while you munch on a delicious indurrito from Hot Indian Foods! Judges choose the top teams from the performers. Last class of the year! We are dedicating this class to those people displaced in Chennai, India due to two months of heavy rains and floods. A part of the proceeds from this class will go to Chennai Relief Funds.

Autism Speaks, a science and advocacy organization, held the 2015 Minnesota Walk Now for Autism Speaks at Target Field. Proceeds benefit Autism Speaks work locally and nationally to increase awareness of autism, fund research and family service on behalf of people with autism in Minnesota.
